About the Session

The Companies Growing Companies series will feature interactive conversations and learnings with experts in fields needed in various stages of company growth: product design, system integration, marketing, and capacity-building. Throughout the series, companies at every stage—from startup to multinational—will learn what it takes to succeed and grow in Alberta’s health innovation sector, and why this region is the best place to build a business.

In our first in-person live session in Calgary brought to you by Health Cities, Invest Alberta and Plug and Play, Invest Alberta will host a discussion with Plug and Play, Biohubx and Thin Air Labs discussing their experiences and observations in the health space, as well as resources and supports available that enable growth and success for innovative Canadian health companies.

Lindsay is a passionate and natural connector with experience saddling multiple industries. As a Director with Plug and Play Alberta, Lindsay is driven to connect the best startups to large corporations who can help bring technology to market faster. Helping Alberta companies scale and commercialize being the main objective.  

With a strong foundation in municipal business processes, Lindsay brings with her 15+ years of health care experience in strategic systems planning, innovation and business consulting. An entrepreneur at heart, she founded and operated one of the largest capacity craft distilleries in Alberta and most recently helped drive economic development efforts within the Agriculture industry at Calgary Economic Development.

Director of Business Development, Biohubx

Elisa Park Kim is Director of Business Development at Biohubx, a not-for-profit supporting life sciences ventures in the growth and scale-up stage. Elisa has hands on experience working with ventures preparing for market entry, understands the challenges they face and finds practical ways of supporting them so they can meet their business objectives. Elisa is an entrepreneurial thinker who builds strategic partnerships across national and international organizations. With close to twenty years of experience working in health care and post-secondary sectors Elisa has created and lead innovation based programs and mentored early stage start-ups.

Health Lead and Head of Experience, Thin Air Labs

Entrepreneur, former elite athlete, founder of Branch Out Neurological Foundation and Health Lead at Thin Air Labs Inc. Crystal has a range of experience that provides unique insight into investing in the health care space for significant human impact and outsized returns on investment. 

She has a nationwide network of public, private, governmental, and charitable leaders. Her experience, network and competitive spirit allow her to bring solutions to ventures that accelerate their growth. As the founder and Director of Branch Out Neurological Foundation she has raised over $3 million for neurological research in universities across Canada.

Managing Director, Investor Services, Invest Alberta

Cara is the managing director of investor services at Invest Alberta, an organization focused on attracting high impact, high value investments into Alberta. In its first two years, Invest Alberta helped clients commit $20 billion in investments and 6,700 jobs into Alberta.

Cara has spent 15+ years serving Albertans within the Alberta Energy Regulator and multiple Government of Alberta departments, advising on corporate strategies, operational projects, transparency initiatives, and reputational issues. Cara also volunteers to support women’s leadership initiatives.
