Here are some highlights from this week’s Health Innovation Roundup: Headlines A team of University of Alberta scientists tested bioengineered knee cartilage in low gravity as an experiment to learn more about how osteoarthritis develops. A new U of A study suggested that a molecule called fractalkine stimulates the production of brain cells that produce myelin. The results could potentially help treat neurodegenerative disorders. A group of doctors from the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Association have formed an opioid response committee to address spiking overdoses. The Institute of Health and Economics (IHE) has launched the Life Sciences Market Access Program to support Alberta and B.C.-based life sciences companies with “market-ready health technology.” The deadline to apply is Oct. 5. Alberta Innovates has postponed Inventures Canada due to the fourth wave of COVID-19. It will focus on its next event in June 2022 instead.
