Here are some highlights from this week’s Health Innovation Roundup: Local headlines The federal government announced $26 million in funding to address gaps in care transitions. Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor made the announcement while touring research facilities at the University of Alberta last week. The Canadian Institutes of Health Research grants will also get a $6.3 million boost in funding from partner organizations. True Angle Medical Technologies, the creators of the Mobili-T swallowing device, won the AGE-WELL NCE Inc. National Impact Challenge: Startup Edition in Vancouver. Edmonton-based tech developer Dynacor is helping nursing students at NorQuest College using virtual reality. “Once you experience VR, you instantly understand how engaging and productive an experience it is,” said Terri Dorn, managing partner at Dynacor. Four graduate students from the University of Alberta were chosen for the Mazankowski bursary award in partnership with the Institute for Health Economics. This year the Edmonton Corn Maze will feature the outline of the Stollery Children’s Hospital bear doctor, with programming to highlight the work of the hospital. Edmonton Journal columnist David Staples highlighted Aris MD’s virtual reality software that aids in surgery. The Edmonton-founded company won NASA’s 2019 iTech-Cycle I.
