Here are some highlights from this week’s Health Innovation Roundup: Local headlines U of A biochemist, Brian Sykes, the University of Alberta biochemist who pioneered the use of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, was named to the Order of Canada — the country’s highest honour. The Alberta Diabetes Institute is leading a clinical trial for an anti-obesity drug for patients with rare genetic disorders . Dr. Vincent Agyapong, the creator of Text4Mood, was named one of the 2019 ASTech Awards finalists. An Edmonton app called OGOW EMR has received a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The app stores health records electronically, and the grant will go towards improving infant vaccination coverage in Somalia. Edmonton-based blood pressure measurement company mmHg Inc launched clinical blood pressure telemonitoring. StarMetro Edmonton profiled Health City and its work to transform Edmonton into a medical research hub. BioAlberta is conducting a survey and accepting pitches for its industry showcase in September.
