Headlines

• Edify’s Edifier Awards recognized Simba Nyazika of neurotechnology company Lenica Research Group for his business leadership. The winter edition of the magazine also honoured occupational therapist Juanita Gnanapragasam as an Edifier for her work with the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues and Converse and Cook.
• Hepion Pharmaceuticals, a New Jersey-based biopharmaceutical company that has a research facility in Edmonton, received a $416,000 Alberta Innovation Employment Grant. The company is working on treatments for liver diseases.
• An information session for companies interested in the Life Sciences Investment Summit is now available. The deadline for applications for the summit, presented by Startup TNT and Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API), is Jan. 24.
• Edmonton Global is recruiting companies for its trade delegation to the 2023 Smart City Summit and Expo in Taipei, Taiwan, from March 28 to April 1, noting that telemedicine is among the topics of interest.
• Tickets are sold out for the Jan. 12 Health Innovators’ Meetup on clinical trial supports in Alberta for your innovations, featuring Crespo’o Ndiabamoh of Innovate Calgary’s IMPACT, Lawrence Richer of the Northern Alberta Clinical Trials and Research Centre, and Tammy Mah-Fraser of Alberta Innovates.
• Alberta Blue Cross named Lauren Kennedy West, an Edmonton mother who lives with schizophrenia, as the winner of its Faces of Wellness program. The organization also recognized 10 finalists chosen from among more than 350 nominations and applications.
• Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API) hosted a tour of its facilities with the Alberta government’s post-secondary research and innovation strategy team.
• The Alberta government is collecting input until Jan. 24 on its digital strategy to help modernize and improve government services.
