Here are some highlights from this week’s Health Innovation Roundup: News NAIT simulation training room gives future first responders a realistic learning experience Start with the actual problem first, stakeholders told over bacon: AltaML co-founder and CEO Cory Janssen spoke about the opportunity for artificial intelligence and machine learning to impact health care at Health City’s Stakeholders and Bacon event last week. Last week, Edmonton AM with Mark Connolly spoke with Joanne Fedeyko, Alberta’s official liaison in Silicon Valley, to talk about how Edmonton can diversify its economy through health care. Avenue Magazine profiled Steve Csorba, a neck cancer patient who will become the first patient to sit on the board of the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine. Quest PharmaTech Inc. hosted its annual general meeting and special stakeholders meeting on Jan. 28. The Edmonton-based pharmaceutical company brought on Norma Beauchamp as a director on the board and re-elected Lorne Meikle, J. Mark Lievonen, W. John Meekison, Shawn Lu, and Madi R. Madiyalakan. Alberta Innovates is expanding two of its working groups. The Clinical Health Research in the Community working group is looking for physicians and clinical health research support staff. The eSolutions working group is looking for clinical health researchers and support staff to help navigate paperless management. Events On Feb. 13 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Maple Leaf Room of Lister Centre at 11613 87 Ave NW, Canada Research Chair in Machine Intelligence for Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta Patrick Pilarski will be giving a talk to UAlberta alumni and guests about Artificial Intelligence applications in physical and rehabilitation medicine. The Healthy Community Symposium by the Communities ChooseWell and the Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund will host the “Connecting Changemakers” symposium at the Santa Maria Goretti Centre at 11050 90 Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 7 and from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 8. The 2019 Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health Symposium will be held in Edmonton from April 14 to 16. The T4M Start-up World trade show for medical technology innovators will be held in Stuttgart, Germany on May 7 to 9. Abstract submissions for eHealth 2019 have closed, but there is room at the conference for delegates. The conference runs from May 26 to 29 at the Beanfield Centre in Toronto, ON.
