News

  • Molecular You was one of 11 spin-off companies honoured at the TEC Edmonton Innovation Awards where several UAlberta commercial projects and nine UAlberta patent holders were honoured.

  • TEC Edmonton highlighted the work of IMBiotechnologies Ltd. as a case study. The company created a new medical device, Ekobi Embolization MIcrospheres, a Health Canada-approved device that treats enlarged prostates through artery embolization, a nonsurgical treatment. The company is also working on a clinical study out of the University of Alberta for a uterine fibroid treatment.
  • The Edmonton Journal profiled a workshop for teachers hosted by GlycoNet. The workshop aimed to have more teachers bring in glycomics, the study of carbohydrates in humans, brought into the classroom.
  • The Merck Innovation Accelerator is looking for early-stage Canadian human and animal companies to join the accelerator.
  • Through an order in council, Helena Acheson and Erasmus Okine were reappointed as members of the Alberta Research and Innovation Advisory Committee, each for a term to expire on December 31, 2020.
  • Trioova has been accepted into the 2019 cohort of NEXT Canada’s Next 36.
  • Shandong Polytechnic delegates were at Norquest College to build partnerships between the two institutions.

Events

  • TEC Edmonton is hosting the Women Technology Entrepreneurs Roundtable on Dec. 12. Tickets are free.
  • The 2019 Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health Symposium will be held in Edmonton from April 14 to 16.
  • Abstract submissions for eHealth 2019 have closed, but there is room at the conference for delegates. The conference runs from May 26 to 29 at the Beanfield Centre in Toronto, ON.
