Alan Nursall is the retired President and CEO of the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton (TWOSE). He joined TWOSE in January 2014 following a 24-year career at Science North in Sudbury, Ontario and six years running his own science communication company. Mr. Nursall helped launch Science North in 1984 and served as Science Director from 1999 to 2007, responsible for the science experience at Science North and its companion facility, Dynamic Earth. He started NEXT Exhibits, Inc., in 2007, creating exhibits, shows, and other experiences for science centres and museums across North America and beyond. He returned to his hometown of Edmonton in 2014 to join TWOSE, where he initiated and led the Aurora Project, a $42 million renovation and expansion of the entire science centre. He retired from TWOSE in June 2023.
From September, 2023 to May, 2024, Alan joined the team at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre as the Interim Executive Director. The Citadel is one of Canada’s largest professional theatre organizations.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Fort Edmonton Management Company, and Youth Science Canada. He received a Career Achievement Award from the Canadian Association of Science Centres in 2022. I have been working with CBI for fourteen years as an Occupational Therapist, Team Lead, Regional Manager, and Manager of Clinical Services. During my tenure, I have been involved with standardizing service delivery for all community clinicians in the field of home care, community bases rehabilitation, as well as community-based assessment. Moreover, I support both our clinical teams at a local level in Edmonton, Alberta, as well as across the province.
Additionally, I have been able to participate in pilot projects including the creation of a transitional care unit in Calgary, Alberta, which oversaw the care of clients who have experienced catastrophic injuries. These clients were then treated by a multi-disciplinary team; and then re-integrated in the community. Currently, I am spearheading in-person assessment and treatment initiatives with Worker's Safety & Compensation Commission in the Northwest Territories for our skilled therapies in additional to psychological services. Specifically, we are delivering in-person services in remote locations such as Norman Wells, Hay River, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk.
